It’s snow laughing matter!

Day two of the technical rehearsal is underway – without most of the costumes! Some brave soul has just driven through the snow from Bournemouth with a car load of costumes, but others are stuck in delivery depots and nobody seems to know where or indeed when they might reach us. Thursday’s opening is approaching fast so Jackie, our wonderful Costume Supervisor, is laying down contingency plans with her chums in the wardrobe at Scottish Opera to provide emergency costumes if the real ones don’t arrive.

Meanwhile, on stage the company, technicians and the creative team are painstakingly going through the production scene by scene in what are known as Technical Rehearsals – the first time stage, lights, sound, band and actors come together.

A key ingredient of the set is a massive revolving stage which up until 1am this morning didn’t revolve! With an engineer present there was much scratching of heads (and the possibility that the designer of the mechanism might have to fly over from Los Angeles!) until finally someone thought to check one of the smallest components of the machine and it now spins like a dream – Phew. You can’t be of a nervous disposition to work in the theatre!
